Stephen Bruel completed his PhD research into remastering in 2019. Apart from his PhD studies, Stephen has also presented his research on remastering at conferences and is currently finalising publications. This page will be updated as future research and publications unfold.

Thesis

My PhD thesis is titled 'Nostalgia, authenticity and the culture and practice of remastering music' and features a case study on the 2014 remastered CD releases of Sunnyboys. It was a wonderful project and very humbling experience working with the band I have idolised for so long. A big thank you to my supervisor Dr Gavin Carfoot, Peter Oxley and Richard Burgman from Sunnyboys, band manager Tim Pittman and remastering engineer Rick O'Neil.
